Which return do I need?

The return you file depends on who is filing and how a business is set up with the IRS. Most people fall into one of three groups.

  • If you are an individual, you file a personal return (Form 1040), whether you are an employee, self-employed, a landlord or an investor.
  • If you own a business, the business may file its own return: Form 1065 for a partnership, Form 1120-S for an S corporation or Form 1120 for a C corporation. A sole proprietor or single-member LLC reports the business on Schedule C of the owner's personal return.
  • If you run a business and also have personal income, you usually need both a business return and a personal return, and the two should agree with each other.

When to start

The best time to start is before the deadline, not at it. Gathering documents early leaves time to find anything missing, and an extension is easier to file before the due date than to explain after it. If you have years that were never filed, start now: penalties and interest keep growing until the returns are filed.

Can I work with you if I do not live in Texas?

Yes. Our work is done online through the client portal, and we prepare federal returns and state returns for many states.

Can you prepare returns for earlier years?

What if I received an IRS notice?

Send us the letter. Our IRS notice help pages explain common notices, and we can look at yours and tell you your options.
